(1)    Introduction

All matches will played under the auspices of the league secretary to whom any queries regarding these rules should be directed. The HIWCBA committee may decide upon any matters not covered by these rules at their absolute discretion. Regular updates of league tables, knock-outs and main County events can be found on the web pages click on the relevant competition above.

(2)   Arrangement

Matches are to be played on mutually convenient dates arranged by the opposing captains. The league secretary publishes a Match Schedule giving termination dates, by which date each match must be completed. Matches played after the termination dates disrupt the competition and in principle no extension to the published schedule will be permitted. In exceptional circumstances, extensions to the termination date MAY BE allowed provided:-

(a)  The match date has been agreed by the team captains;

(b)  The delay has the Prior agreement of the league secretary.

Where matches are not played the league secretary, in consultation with the HIWCBA committee, will resolve matters in the most equable manner possible.

To arrange a match the Home captain should, at least 4 weeks before the termination date, offer three alternative dates. If these dates are not offered, or they are unsuitable, the Away captain should offer three dates. Dates offered should include a choice of days of the week. The Home captain determines the venue and is responsible for providing suitable playing conditions and half time refreshments.  The Away team is expected to travel to this venue at its own expense.

(3)   Start Time

Unless otherwise agreed by the captains, the start time is assumed to be 7.30 p.m.

(4)   Late arrivals

Where one team arrives late, the non-offending captain may request the number of boards be reduced as follows:

For every complete seven minutes late. One board is removed with 3 IMP’s awarded to the non-offending side.

(5)   Notification of late arrival

(a)  When a team notifies its opponents that they are delayed, the match start time may be delayed by up to a maximum of two hours but Rule 4 above still applies. After two hours delay, the match is cancelled and may be awarded to the non-offending team.

(b)  When a team does not notify its opponents of delay, the match time may be delayed by up to one hour, but Rule 4 above applies. After a one hour delay the match will be cancelled and may be awarded to the non-offending team.

(6)   Half time break

Unless agreed by both captains, the half-time break should not exceed 15 minutes.

(7)   Tournament Directors

If there are any queries during a match, the away captain is to act as tournament director. If there are any matters which cannot be resolved either of the directors below can be contacted.

(10)  Match Results

All matches are scored in IMP’s . The total IMP’s scored by each team, and the names of all team members, should be noted the preferred  method of informing the league secretary is via the web site.  If this is not possible the the winning captain should send a notification of the result to the league secretary as soon as practical after the match, so that League and Knock-out tables can be published.

Either captain may use the “Send Results” facility of this web site  to inform the league secretary of the result. This method is far superior to “snail mail”.

For league events the Imps will be converted to VPs using the standard EBU scales as show below.

In Knock out matches if the result is level at the end of the specified number of boards then four extra boards must be played, and this action will continue until a result is obtained. The extra 4 boards should be played in 2 stanzas of 2 boards each.
